The Rathcoole man will contribute to a Saturday night show on Huntingdon Community Radio, selecting songs that don’t often get aired on mainstream radio.

The programme ‘A Different Beat’ goes out every Saturday night from 8pm - 10pm on HCR104fm, which serves the areas of Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Huntingdonshire.

Joe’s slot on DJ Simon BB’s show has been labelled simply as ‘Joey’s Jukebox’ and will be featured on the show from time to time.

Joe’s first selection was The Mighty Mojos, a local band that was brought to prominence by Gerry Anderson, with their song ‘When You Love Somebody’, which continues to get frequent airplay on Sean Coyle’s morning programme on BBC Radio Ulster.

According to Joe, DJ Simon BB was “totally blown away” by the song and the positive feedback it received.

Simon couldn’t praise the song enough and he instantly proclaimed that The Mighty Mojos will be his special feature on his next show in the ‘Double Header’ spot.

“Wow, when I heard the song I was in love within a few beats, it’s so infectious,” Simon commented. “The sound captivates you with a magnificent buzz. I know that songs can pull you in, but this grabs you before you have the chance to breathe. I am dancing inside, the heart is pumping the beat through my veins.”

The award-winning four-piece band have been together for over three years and their repertoire is mainly a blend of original and refreshing hard driving rock and blues.

Ballymena man David McClean, the lead guitarist who plays a mean slide guitar, pens most of their songs and also records the group’s material at his own studio.

“We’re delighted to have been played on radio in England. It’s always great to expand our fan base as wide as possible. We’re excited about our new album which should be out in the next few months, so hopefully there will be a lot more airplay soon,” David said.

The Mighty Mojos have recently collaborated with founding member and guitarist Manny Charlton (ex Nazareth) who produced several of their recent recordings. Lee Hedley is their talented lead singer who also plays a mean harmonica and Davy Kennedy on drums and Ali McKenzie on bass complete the line-up.

“The response (to the first Joey’s Jukebox spot) was overwhelming,” said Joe. “Feedback came from listeners as far away as Istanbul, Canada, France and of course Northern Ireland. I am a loyal supporter of live bands and I have always been a staunch follower of The Mighty Mojos. It makes me very happy the response the boys have received and that I was in some small way able to contribute and hope it will be conducive to bigger things for them,” he added.
