Originally situated at the corner of the Jordanstown Road and Monkstown Road, the Post Office relocated to Jennings Park in the 1960s until it moved to its current location at 197 Jordanstown Road, 16 years ago in 1997.

John, who has given three decades of loyal service to his customers, thanked the local community for their support over the years.

“The Post Office has been an integral part of the community in Monkstown wherever it has been based, and it has been a very rewarding 30 years just knowing that I have been a part of this,” he commented.

“I have seen generations of families pass through the Post Office and have watched many children grow up to have children of their own, with the Post Office continuing to offer them key services.

“None of it would have been possible without the help of my wife, my staff, and my loyal customers.”

Post Office area manager, Linda McLaughlin added: “It’s great to be able to recognise the hard work that our subpostmasters put in and I would like to congratulate John on his 30 years of service.”

John runs the Post Office with his wife Emily and is assisted by Post Office counter clerk, Pamela McKnight.

He has two children and two grandchildren.
