MANY will be fortunate enough to get tickets to see their golfing heroes at the Irish Open this year and for many tickets will have been obtained through the normal channels.

Interested? Then read on!

On Saturday, June 23 from 10am to 12 noon Tidy Northern Ireland is calling for volunteers from the local area and beyond to come along to the beautiful east strand beach at Portrush for a beach cleanup with a difference – One Big Shine Up!

The East Strand has been given a wonderful facelift with the recent completion of a smart new promenade complete with a stylish artwork. Sadly the beach immediately in front of the Watersports Centre requires a little help to rid it of some unwanted debris that has made their way onto the beach, causing a bit of a nuisance. There will also be the option for a litter pick.

In order to help the beach come back to its former sand-dominant glory, the call is going out to members of the public to give a helping hand to ‘shine up’ the beach sand while having a chance to win tickets to the Irish Open for a day.

Meeting at the Council’s Watersports Centre at East strand, all you have to do is turn up, receive a plastic bucket and off you go.

Gather as many stones as you can from a given area of the beach to fill your bucket and for every bucket filled and returned to the collection point, a raffle ticket will be entered into the draw for a pair of tickets. The more filled buckets, the more entries to the draw.

The draw for a pair of tickets will be held after the event on the beach and the happy winner will leave to prepare for their big day at Royal Portrush in the knowledge that they have also helped clean up a very popular Portrush beauty spot in time for the summer season.

Another pair of tickets for the Irish Open can be won after the event by entering a competition related to One Big Shine Up on the NI 2012 blog, so make sure you check out blog.ni2012.com to be in with a chance to win.

In addition to the raffle entry, there will be spot prizes, giveaways and other promotions on the day from Domino’s and Coca-Cola also everyone who takes part will be guaranteed to receive a special stick of sweet rock. In other words a rock for a rock!

“We are delighted to be working alongside Northern Ireland Tourist Board and Coleraine Borough Council in such an unusual clean up, this One Big Shine Up is an excellent way for local volunteers to get involved in the preparations for the Irish Open,” said Nicola Murray, Community Support Officer from TIDY Northern Ireland.
