Jonathan to stand for UKIP

Jonathan Johns will stand for UKIP in Lurgan in the forthcoming elections.

Jonathan (45) lives in Warings town with his wife Alyson and three children - Lucy, Callum and Zara.

“We have lived in the area for the past 14 years and have grown to love the area and diversity of the town and country,” he said.

The Waringstown man works for the National Health Service as a community psychiatric nurse.

He said: “My passions in life include health promotion, sports, especially rugby, community development and safety, and history and I’m involved in all of the above with a variety of organisations within the local area.

“A shining example of a club that’s making a real difference within Lurgan is the local Tigers rugby team. I’m privileged to be able to assist in coaching my son’s team. We have boys taking part from all areas and communities, united in the name of sport, playing and developing teamwork and mutual respect.

“As we all know, Lurgan, like many parts of Northern Ireland, have come through very turbulent times during the Troubles. I myself grew up in Moy, part of the murder triangle, and don’t want my children or any of our children having to be subjected to fear, terror and intimidation.”

He continued: “So why vote UKIP (NI)? As we all share this piece of land I firmly believe we are all better off within the United Kingdom and making it work, independent from Europe. I believe if we left the EU we would be able to take control of our borders and deal with the widespread mass immigration which is currently uncontrolled and becoming unsustainable to us the tax payers. As a member of UKIP since 2011 I feel privileged to have the opportunity to stand for a progressive party here in Lurgan. With 20 years experience working within community mental health I feel I am well equipped to serve the people with compassion, respect and hard work.”
