Jordan’s Mill car park to close again

After years of legal wrangling the car park which was forced to close in October, following a ruling by the Planning Appeals Commission, reopened a few weeks ago.

It was then some supporters of the Antrim Street car park, claimed if it were to close again they would chain themselves to the barrier.

Now the owners have been told the car park must close once again, by January 8.

The land at Antrim Street which had been used as a car park for 16 years, closed earlier this year. It employed four people. Jordan’s Mill had been based at the site for over 80 years.

Lawyers working on behalf of owners recently discovered a loophole to keep it open, and forwarded a planning application.

The car park, the owners were told, was expected to remain open for the next 28 days.

A spokesperson for Jordan’s Mill car park said, they were content to keep the car park open over the busy Christmas period and were delighted with the support they received from the public.

She said, “We acknowledge that an enforcement notice has been issued by LCCC, due to take effect on January 8.

“However, it has only ever been our intention to open until the end of December and we wrote to the Council prior to the opening to confirm this period of operation would not exceed 28 days.

“It is hoped this will allow maximum benefit to local traders in supporting and maintaining the viability and vitality of Lisburn City Centre.”

A council spokesperson were contacted several times but were unable to respond.
