Journalists lost for words at Causeway trip

A group of influential journalists from France enjoyed an action-packed visit to the Causeway Coast and Belfast last week.

Representing various leading French print and online publications, the journalists were invited by Tourism Ireland, in conjunction with the Northern Ireland Tourist Board, to research the many things to see and do here for feature stories they are writing about holidays to Northern Ireland.

As well as a drive along the spectacular Causeway Coastal Route, with a visit to the Giant’s Causeway and a ‘hard hat’ tour of the new Visitor Centre, the journalists’ fact-finding trip also included time in Belfast’s Titanic Quarter – including a ‘sneak preview’ of Titanic Belfast, a visit to SS Nomadic and to Titanic’s Dock and Pump-House. Their itinerary also included a guided tour of Belfast, as well as time for a spot of retail therapy in the city.

Billy Condon, Tourism Ireland’s Manager for Southern Europe, said: “Visits such as this are an excellent opportunity to showcase the high standard and variety of tourism product on offer in Northern Ireland for potential French visitors. The publicity value of the articles these journalists will write is fantastic – they will be read by thousands of potential holidaymakers around France.

“The superb programme of new attractions, events and historic anniversaries taking place in Northern Ireland this year, including the opening of Titanic Belfast and the new Giant’s Causeway Visitor Centre, presents us with a significant opportunity to deliver a new message to people in France about Northern Ireland and to show them why they should choose to come here. Tourism Ireland’s promotions will capitalise on this unprecedented opportunity and will highlight the strengths of Northern Ireland – iconic experiences, warm, friendly people and value for money.”
