Joy soon for MUGA pitch campaigners?

THERE is mounting excitement in The Fountain this week, with hopes that an announcement will soon be made, that after a prolonged lobbying campaign, the necessary funding is about to be released for a MUGA pitch in the area.

There has been anongoing eight-year struggle for funding by community worker, Jeanette Warke, who is very hopeful that very soon £250,000 will be invested in a new play facility. She believes it is “long overdue” and welcomed the fact that the pitch could be completed within the year.

“We have spent the last eight years trying to get planning permission, funding and approval for a multi-purpose pitch for the young people of The Fountain. This will mean such a lot to the young people because three times a week the children are being bussed to a suitable facility. I hope soon they will be able to practice and play on their own doorstep,” she said, thanking the members of Triax Neighbourhood Renewal, Groundwork and City Council official Colin Kennedy for their support and help over the years.

Alderman Maurice Devenney, who has been supporting Mrs Warke for the past three years, also paid tribute to all those involved in trying to get funding, but particularly Mrs Warke, City Council and the DSD.

“An announcement on this would welcome. The Fountain is disadvantaged and hopefully this will be the first of many such investments,” he said.
