Speaking after the event Councillor Finlay said: “The beacon, one of 50 across Northern Ireland, was lit in honour of the Queen. It could be seen for miles around and overlooked Slemish where our adjoining Council, Ballymena, beacon was sited. Our hill top site is one of the highest points in our borough. People of all ages joined us for what proved to be a very enjoyable evening.”

A network of over 2012 Beacons was lit by communities throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands and The Isle of Man, along with the Commonwealth and UK Overseas Territories to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
