Jubilee Display at Museum

THE Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II is being celebrated by the Mid-Antrim Museum at The Braid with a display of Royal memorabilia from its collection.

The accession to the throne of a young and attractive female monarch in 1952 heralded hope for the future after the dark days of two World Wars.

The Coronation, broadcast on television, illustrated continuity of British traditions which had faced extinction from enemy powers. The marvel of watching the ceremony in your own home indicated that the progress of technology could provide a brighter future.

Many Coronation souvenirs, especially mugs, still have pride of place in many homes and a selection of such memorabilia can be seen on display until Saturday, June 30.

The display will be available throughout the month of May to community groups who are holding their own celebration event in the run up to the Jubilee with the closing date for enquiries, Friday, March 30.

Museum opening hours are Monday to Friday 10am-5pm & Saturday 10am-4pm. For further information please visit www.thebraid.com or contact Shirin Murphy, Assistant Curator Tel: 028 25657161 Email [email protected]
