Judge says defendant's abusive behaviour was '˜appalling'

Jamie Cordy, whose address was given to the court as Victoria Street, Lurgan, admitted the offence which happened on October 24 last year.

He was also ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard that at 1.25am police saw the defendant in Victoria Street and approached him to carry out a search.

Cordy told them: “Get you hands off me, you c—ts, you b—ds. I’m only having a smoke. You wouldn’t do this on the other side of the town.”

He continued to be abusive to police calling them ‘fat b—ds’.

He was arrested at 2.05am and in the police land rover he calmed down.

Mr Conor Downey, representing the defendant, said Cordy was very apologetic for the foul language he used and his true character came through when he was put in the police vehicle. He had taken too much alcohol.

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said the defendant’s behaviour was ‘appalling’.
