Judge warns man about his behaviour

A Coleraine man was told to 'get in control' by a judge at last Wednesday's sitting of North Antrim Magistrates' Court.

Before Deputy District Judge McFarland was Alexander Nott (21) of Mountsandel Road.

He was charged with two counts of criminal damage and possession of an offensive weapon.

Court heard that police were called to a house in Park Street in Coleraine on October 8, last year.

The homeowner had reported that damage had been caused to his house by Nott and another male.

The living room window had been smashed and damage was caused to the front door.

Nott was interviewed and admitted being in an intoxicated and angry state at the time of the incident. He said that he had gone to the victim’s home and damaged the window and the front door of the property with a metal object.

Solicitor Garrett Greene said that there was ‘some history’ between the defendant and the injured party.

He said that Nott suffered from Asperger’s Syndrome and had problems with alcohol.

Addressing Nott, Judge McFarland said: “This is the third time you have been before this court.

“You need to get in control. The next time you are back here you will be going to jail. It’s time to get a grip and address your alcohol problem.”

Nott was fined 60 on each of the three charges and ordered to pay 60 in compensation to the victim.
