Junior cup news

THE qualifying rounds for the Junior Cup were played at eight different venues last Sunday. Banbridge had to go to Spa Golf Club.

This is a long and testing course and the extreme heat made playing conditions difficult.

Rory Madeley is the team captain and he had his men well prepared.

Kieran Magennis is a vastly experienced player and he went out first and returned a steady 79.

You could say the same about Neil Madeley. He kept mistakes to a minimum as he got it round in 78 shots.

The experienced players had done their bit. It was left to the younger generation to complete the task.

And they did just that. Josh Lockhart shot a 79 while William Malcolmson and Matthew Mallon both scored 83.

The best four cards gave Banbridge a total of 319 and that led the qualifiers. That was a tremendous result and everyone was happy.

Banbridge will play Spa at Lisburn in the first round of matchplay.

This team is looking good.
