Junior set-up is one of the best

SUNNYSIDE have one of the best set-ups for coaching children to prepare them for entering the Lisburn league at under 11 level.

Starting at six years old and under the guidance of club President Dessie ‘Bunker’ McGuinness, Chris O’Connor and Noel Maginn, the children learn the basics of the game.

As the children progress, drills are added and, as well as games that teach the rules to the players. All parents are encouraged to take part and help with training sessions.

When eight years old they enter the Mid-Ulster sevens which starts them on the road to playing for Sunnyside.

This means they hopefully follow in the footsteps of Ciaran Toner, Henry McStay, Conor McAnallen, Niall Henderson, Sean Mackle and Michael McKerr who all played for clubs across the water.

Other notable players to come through at Sunnyside are Michael Downey and Ronan O’Hara, who represented Northern Ireland at amateur level, and the countless number of players who have represented Armagh at the Milk Cup.
