Following the success of the Humdinger Book Festival earlier this year, Dog Ears has joined forces with Tesco, the Arts & Business Northern Ireland Invest North West programme and Culture Company 2013 to deliver free Junior Writers’ Workshops to P5 children in schools across the Derry City Council area over the next two weeks.

Dog Ears has created beautiful Junior Writers’ Packs containing hints, tips and resources to encourage children to write and draw. Trisha Deery, local author and illustrator, will visit schools and take the children through the process of creating their very own book: “Everyone involved in the project is keen to develop literacy amongst young people in the city by encouraging children to be creative and find positive ways to express themselves. Each child will leave the session with their own Junior Writers’ Pack, which will give them a real insight into what it takes to become a writer.”

Book Festival in association with Tesco Junior Writers’ Workshops. We know that the Writers’ Packs will help inspire young imaginations and we look forward to reading the results!”

Lorraine Brett, Arts Manager, Arts & Business Northern Ireland said: “Arts & Business NI is delighted to support the Humdinger! Book Festival in association with Tesco Junior Writers’ Workshops. The workshops and their accompanying beautiful Writers’ Packs are a perfect example of an arts organisation and a business working together to enhance the creativity of young people and we hope that all the lucky participants will enjoy them.”
