Just the job at Rosstulla

Employers from right across the borough, Belfast and Carrick took part in the event which offered pupils valuable advice on the skills needed to forge a career in today’s highly competitive jobs’
market.

Students from years nine to 13 were able to chat with employers on the skills and personal qualities they looked for in applicants.

Vice-principal Avril Fryers, who coordinates careers events and work experience placements for the school’s students said: “We also had a number of visitors from other schools across the Newtownabbey learning community.

“It was a very successful event packed full of useful information for all the students.

“We have very good links with numerous employers, not just in Newtownabbey but also outside the borough and in Belfast and they are always very supportive especially in terms of providing work experience for our pupils.

“As with jobs actual work experience placements are becoming harder to come by and we are very grateful to all those employers who continue to support us.”

Mrs Fryers extended thanks to all those employers who took part in the careers convention.

They were: Dr B’s Kitchen (Belfast), USEL (Belfast) The Hair Academy (Belfast), Tesco (Newtownabbey), B&Q (Newtownabbey), Kilcreggan Farm (Carrickfergus), The Clarion Hotel (Carrickfergus), Bombardier (Belfast/Newtownabbey), Riverpark Training (Mallusk) and Newtownabbey Borough Council’s parks department.

Avril added: “It was a great day for all the students and we would like to thank all our exhibitors for participating in this event.

“I would also like to also thank those employers, who were not there on the day but continue to provide support to our pupils.

“They all play a major role in providing our students with the employability skills required for today’s workplace.”
