Just three ASBOs since 2004

JUST three ASBOs have been issued in Londonderry since legislation to tackle anti-social behaviour was introduced here in 2004.

The three Anti-Social Behaviour Orders (ASBO) were issued in the Derry City Council area in 2006.

Justice Minister David Ford outlined the information in response to a query at the Stormont Assembly.

He said the Department of Justice was notified of the ASBOs by the relevant authorities.

The Anti-Social Behaviour (Northern Ireland) Order 2004 introduced ASBOs which the Government said were aimed at protecting the public from behaviour that causes, or is likely to cause, harassment, alarm or distress.

The legislation followed a period of public consultation and approval by Parliament.
