Justice in the Community Awards launched

Justice Minster David Ford has launched the annual Justice in the Community Awards.

Now in its second year, the Awards recognise those who have made an outstanding contribution to making our community safer.

“There are many exceptional people within our community working selflessly to make local communities safer, reduce offending or support victims of crime for the benefit of the entire community, but their commitment and determination often goes unrecognised,” Mr Ford said.

“The successful introduction of the Justice Awards last year highlighted the commitment and work of volunteers and statutory organisations and I’m sure there are many more who would be deserving of an award as Justice Champion.”

Awards will be made to three Justice Champions who are working in any part of Northern Ireland to support the delivery and effectiveness of justice.

The awards will be to the value of £500 for equipment or services to benefit the winner’s local community. Highly commended awards may also be made at the discretion of the judging panel.

The Minister has urged the public to get involved and submit nominations. “The Justice in the Community Awards provide an opportunity to identify an individual or group who has made a real difference within your community and to acknowledge their commitment by nominating them for an award,” he said.
