“The SDLP have always taken a strong lead in regards to our clear position to

fracking. We will continue to oppose all planning applications for this process until it can be proven that it can be done safely and responsibly.”

Cllr Kearney added, “Our position could not be any clearer. There is no proven

evidence that fracking can be carried out safely and responsibly.

“The simple fact of the matter is that, as it stands, the potential damage to the heritage, tourism, and agricultural industries is simply too great to countenance the use of this controversial process.

“There needs to be a rigorous collection and capture of the scientific and

geological data around fracking. Only then can anyone make an informed and

responsible decision as to its suitability for any given area.”
