Kells Main Street needs to be safer says Frew

Paul Frew DUP MLA is questioning what more can be done to make the Main Street area of Kells safer for pedestrians.

He told the Times that having contacted Transport NI regarding various safety issues in and around the village’s Main Street, he has secured a site meeting with their personnel.

The MLA said: “I have been contacted by constituents living in Kells who are concerned about aspects of pedestrian safety. One in particular is the concern people have when crossing the road at the Main Street close to the GP Surgery and Pharmacy. It is vital that this area holds appropriate safety for local children but even more so elderly residents who walk to the surgery.

“The Main Street of Kells is a particularly busy area both during the day and in the evening time, getting across the road is becoming increasingly difficult. People living in most parts of kells will walk through Glenaan Park to get to the surgery and pharmacy. People from Connor will also walk down the path and cross opposite these buildings. The residents believe that that would be the ideal place for a pedestrian crossing. It would also focus minds of drivers.

“I am awaiting a further response from Transport NI who have informed me that they are arranging for a survey to be undertaken to find out if the demand for a formal crossing is satisfied,” he said.
