Kelly in boiler scheme call

RENEWED calls have been made for local residents to re-apply for the Government’s Boiler Replacement Scheme.

SDLP Upper Bann MLA Dolores Kelly has urged all those who were previously deemed ineligible to benefit from the scheme to submit a new application.

“The Boiler Replacement Scheme has been extended to include those receiving the Lone Pensioner Allowance and I urge those aged over 70, with a boiler aged 15 years or older, to apply for this scheme,” said Mrs Kelly. “This is important as it has been shown that over 70 per cent of boilers in Northern Ireland are inefficient.

“With freezing temperatures predicted in the coming weeks, most people’s fuel bills will be increasing further and it is important that all measures are taken to ensure that those living on the poverty line are given help to heat their homes.”

The MLA also urged older people to check if they are entitled to the Warmer Homes Scheme which is also designed to help keep pensioners warm this winer.
