Kelly's donation is the perfect prescription

A KIND-HEARTED Ballymena woman has been thanked after she raised the funds for very important cancer battling equipment.

Kelly McGregor from Ballykeel decided to raise the money for Macmillan Specialist Palliative Care team to purchase special Graseby syringe drivers, after Kelly’s Grandfather, Albert McGregor (or Bert to his friends) passed away last June following a battle with cancer.

Kelly said: “When my Granda was in hospital, Norma’s team treated him really well. Although he had to wait on one of this special syringes so we decided to help raise money for the hospital to purchase more of them so other patients don’t have to wait.”

Kelly raised a fanatastic total of 1,666.50 which enabled the team to purchase two new specialist syringes and still have money left over for other part of the clinic. A total that is even more impressive when you consider Kelly has had to raise a child while raising the money after she had baby just a month after her Granda died.

Norma Adams, Macmillan Clinical Nurse Specialist thanked Kelly for all her hard work, she said: “On behalf of the Macmillan Specialist Palliative Care Team, I would like to express our thanks to Kelly, her family and her friends for her very generous donation of two Graseby Syringe drivers. These will be used by our service to manage troublesome symptoms in patients with cancer and other progressive illnesses.”

This is not the end of Kelly’s fundraising as she plans to continue raising money for good cause, she said: “There is building work going on at the Hospital, I intend to keep raising money for the team to help them make improvements.”
