UNDER the terms of the Project Kelvin contract the speed, resilience and cost of international connectivity for local businesses is guaranteed until 2018 with telecom services in Londonderry now akin to those found in Amsterdam and New York.

East Londonderry Assembly candidate Gregory Campbell asked the Trade Minister Arlene Foster for her assessment of the benefits for businesses in the North West region.

She stated: “Project Kelvin provides businesses on the North Coast, the North West region and across Northern Ireland, for the first time, with a direct international telecommunications link.

“Furthermore, under the terms of the Project contract, the latency, resilience and cost of this international connectivity is guaranteed until 2018.

“This means that businesses throughout Northern Ireland now have access to the same international telecoms services found in major cities like Amsterdam and New York.

“This enables them to compete in global export markets and provides increased opportunities to sell goods and services overseas.

“In addition, Project Kelvin facilitates new opportunities for inward investment in sectors such as financial services and TV/film post production.”
