Ken awarded police medal

Ken has been a police officer for over 27 years. He has performed a number of policing roles across the province, most recently as a Neighbourhood Policing Inspector in Lurgan.

“I’m absolutely delighted about it,” said Ken.

“I’m indebted to those who considered me worthy of it. It’s a reflection not just on me but on police and neighbourhood teams working in Lurgan. It’s a vindication of the overall police service we’re giving in the Lurgan area.”

Over the last 11 years in Lurgan Ken has worked closely with the local community to deliver a very personal policing service and introduce the new neighbourhood style of policing.

He commented: “The job is definitely rewarding, but it’s also very challenging at times. Officers who are on duty 24 hours a day are often faced with difficult situations. I really feel like the service we deliver is a very professional one.

“There is a real engagement and partnership with the community.

“As a police service we’re trying to keep up to date with new technologies like social networking and understand the pressures facing young people.”

He added: “I’ve seen a tremendous amount of change in the Lurgan area and policing in general. I’m more than content to continue to work here.

“The community in Lurgan is very willing to engage with police and this is a very positive and hopeful time to be involved with policing.”

Ken has also been responsible for developing police responses to incidents of civil disorder, terrorist attacks and parading issues and disputes.

He also gives generously of his time and effort in supporting the welfare of police widows, orphans and pensioners.
