Kerb problems

PROVISION of dropped kerbs needs to be reviewed, a local councillor has said.

Sinn Fin councillor Johnny McGibbon has called on Road Service to carry out a review of the provision of dropped kerbs within the Craigavon Borough area.

He made the call after residents from the Shore Rd/Castor Bay Rd area of Lurgan had brought it to his attention that wheelchair users were unable to negotiate the pathway along the street without having to cross over the road.

Mr McGibbon said: “It is essential not only for wheelchair users but also those who have walking difficulties and for parents with prams and buggies that the foot paths are easily negotiated.

"While the provision of dropped kerbs within the area is relatively good there are still sections of pathway which are not negotiable for those who have walking difficulties or who have to manoeuvre a wheeled conveyance over kerbstones.

"I have written to Road Services asking them to review the provision of dropped kerbs with a view to assessing the needs and drawing up a timetable for the installation of new dropped kerbs where they are needed.”
