Kernohan's big finish at Galgorm

COLIN Kinghan held a two point lead at the halfway stage in the weekly sweep held at Galgorm Castle Golf Club.

He was followed in the Low Section by Dave Kernohan who was another point ahead of Phil Hanlon and Chris Cooke.

A further point down came Alistair Murray and Gary Henry with Liam Reilly jnr and Gary Jackson two and four points behind

respectively.

Through 12, Kinghan still led Kernohan by one point with Henry moving up to challenge another point away. Reilly jnr, Murray and Cooke were hot on Henry’s heels one point down.

Hanlon dropped back as a result of a ‘ding’ on 11 and was joined by Jackson. These two players were another point down. Through the Devil’s Elbow and with two to play, Kinghan had increased his lead to two points. Cooke, with a birdie on 13 followed by a par, and Henry with two pars moved up to join Kernohan in joint second. Then came Reilly jnr, Hanlon, Jackson and Murray another point behind.

After leading from halfway Kinghan finished with two pars but this was not sufficient to hold on for victory as Kernohan upped his game over these closing two holes to finish with an eagle two and a birdie to win the Low Section by one point.

The other six golfers were battling for the remaining place. Jackson (two pars), Murray (par, bogey), Cooke (bogey, par) and Henry (two pars) all finished together but Hanlon finished with a birdie and a par to take third place. Reilly jnr won the Gross with 32 pts gross.

In the High Section at the turn William Lennox was two points ahead of Ivan Graham who was one point ahead of David Millar with Alistair McKervill another two points in arrear.

With three holes to play Lennox was still two points ahead but Graham was joined by Millar and an ever improving McKervill. Lennox held his two point lead to the finish when he came home with a par and two bogeys. Millar moved into second place with a bogey, birdie, par finish. McKervill (par, bogey, par) and Graham (bogey, par, par) finished together but with a better back half McKervill claimed the third place.
