Kerry’s charitable birthday

A pupil at Ballycarrickmaddy Primary School has been thanked by the charity Action4Noel Pancreatic Cancer Action fund for her recent kind donation to the charity.

Kerry Doherty has been fundraising for the charity and recently asked for friends and family to donate money in lieu of buying her presents for her eleventh birthday.

The birthday girl raised over £180 and has continued to fundraise, with the total now standing at a fantastic £340.

Recently Kerry Irvine from Action4Noel, a Pancreatic Cancer Action fund, visited the local primary school to meet Kerry, as well as her parents Gerald and Lyn.

The Ballycarrickmaddy pupil decided to raise money for the charity after her father Gerald underwent the Whipple Procedure, the most common type of surgery to remove pancreatic tumours.

“With the permission from Mr Ford the headmaster I went along to Ballycarrickmaddy to meet her and her parents Lyn and Gerald as I was totally overwhelmed that someone so young could do this,” explained Kerry from Action4Noel.

“I feel really honoured that this family did something so wonderful.

“Precious Photography http://lisburnphotographer.co.uk/portfolio/ generously donated a family session for Kerry and her family, along with Charlene’s Cakes from Omagh, who donated a box of delicious cupcakes just to help say ‘thank you’.”

Ali Stunt, CEO of Pancreatic Cancer Action thanked Kerry for her donation: “Thank you to Kerry for being so kind by donating all her birthday money to us. We are very touched by her donation to our charity. “It is thanks to the generosity of individuals like Kerry who enable us to continue our vital work to stamp out late detection of pancreatic cancer.”

Action4Noel is a Pancreatic Cancer Action fund for Northern Ireland founded by Kerry Irvine in memory of her husband Noel Irvine who died in November 2011 to Pancreatic cancer aged 54, leaving his wife Kerry widowed at the age of 38 with two small children Nathan (8) and Ellie (5).

To date, Action4Noel has raised almost £12,000 for Pancreatic Cancer Action and Kerry hopes to raise at least £20,000.
