It made the claim as the Greek Government accepted the terms of a new bail out, which will see harsh austerity measures imposed.

The IRSP has indicated support for the Greek Communist Party (KKE) position as has another Irish republican splinter party, The Workers’ Party.

“On the face of it the KKEs scepticism and mistrust has been vindicated,” the IRSP stated. “Syriza reformism has cost the Greek people a valuable opportunity to start again with a blank slate.”

“None of the lessons learned from the Lisbon Treaty referendums or years of imposed austerity here have been taken on board, Syriza can be accused of class collaboration of implementing the will of the EU elite against the interests of our class and their nation,” it added.

“The lesson from Greece that the Republican Left, and indeed the wider working class movement, in Ireland need to learn is there can be no compromise on matters of principle. The institutions of capitalism are going to act in their own interests at every opportunity on their principle of profit before all else, even lives, as they have always done. It must be the task of the IRSP and all others on the Irish left to articulate our alternative, build alliances with each other and act in the interests of our class not our respective political party. It’s only by this honest engagement can we hope to build a socialist movement on this island capable of implementing our vision,” it said.

Mr Tsakolotos recently addressed the Sinn Féin Ard Fhéis in Londonderry where he accused Brussels and Frankfurt of forcing Greece to pay out on dodgy bets placed by European banks and investors on the PASOK and New Democracy Governments.
