Kick start year with ‘Resolution 5k Run’

NORTHERN Ireland’s first ‘Resolution 5K Run’ will take place at Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park on Sunday March 11 2012 to raise money and awareness for the Stroke Association.

The course at Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park is ideal for novices to try walking, jogging or running or for a seasoned runner to warm up for longer distances in the future.

The event is a fun approach to achieving your 2012 fitness goals whatever they are and the Stroke Association will even help you by providing an eight week training plan in the lead up to the event.

Stroke is the UK’s third biggest killer and the leading cause of adult disability and approximately 4,000 people in Northern Ireland will have a stroke this year. Stroke happens when the blood supply to part of the brain is disrupted. Most strokes occur when a blood clot blocks the flow of blood to the brain. Some strokes are caused by bleeding in or around the brain from a burst blood vessel.

By signing up for the Resolution 5K Run, taking regular exercise and following a healthier lifestyle, you will be reducing your own chances of having a stroke in the future.

It’s only £10 to enter and as there is no set sponsorship target, participants are asked to raise as much as they can. For more information please call the Northern Ireland Fundraising Team on 028 9050 8053 or email [email protected]
