The workshop will be led by Vital Nutrition’s Jane McClenaghan, who will take you on a guided tour through your weekly shopping basket.

Most of us take the same route around the supermarket week after week. We may never venture into the aisle that stocks quinoa or tahini – and even if we did, these are the kind of foods we buy on a whim and then find them six months later when we are clearing out a cupboard. Did you know that you dietary fat helps your body to burn fat; or that almonds can help you sleep better? You will learn all about how these foods can help you improve your health particularly, if you are looking to adopt a healthier lifestyle.

This workshop is one of many planned as part of Health in Mind, a partnership project which offers a wide range of positive mental health and wellbeing resources and services in libraries and other community venues. Libraries NI is the lead partner, working along with Action Mental Health, Aware Defeat Depression, CAUSE and MindWise.

Darren Gowdy, Project Manager of Health in Mind says: “This is a great opportunity for people in the Cushendall area to find out more about making healthy choices and positive changes to their diet and lifestyle. The workshop will be presented in an informal setting, in a fun and interactive way and packed full of simple and practical ideas to help people make immediate positive changes for the good of their health.”

The Health in Mind partners work to reduce the stigma attached to mental illness by improving the understanding of mental health in the wider community and by providing opportunities to join in activities based on the themes of Information, Learning and Reading.

Kickstart Your Health is free and open to all.
