Concerns were raised after so-called '˜killer clowns' attempted to stop traffic in the village of Doagh on Saturday, October 22.

The incident took place at around 9pm at the junction of the Ballyclare Road and the Station Road.

It is understood that two boys aged approximately 13 were involved in the incident. One motorist who did not wish to be named said: “I was driving through Doagh on my way from Ballyclare. As I approached the junction I could see a couple of figures at the side of the road.

“I stopped to give way to oncoming traffic. While stopped, the two figures appeared at the side of my car and attempted to reach for the passenger door handle. I know it was only kids and I was able to drive on, but if it had been an elderly motorist, I’m sure it would’ve been quite distressing for them. Both boys were dressed in dark clothing with clown masks on their faces.”

Commenting recently on the ‘killer clown’ craze, a PSNI spokesperson said: “We like to approach every job with a degree of common sense and proportionality. However, where child safety and public safety is concerned we will take a zero tolerance, no nonsense approach! May I suggest leaving the clown costumes for the parties? There is a very real chance this sort of clowning around will land you in a cell for the night. Have fun over Halloween, be sensible, be safe and if in doubt give us a call on 101 (or 999 in an emergency).”
