Kids workshops at craft fair

While the adults are browsing among the 40 exhibitor stands, youngsters can keep themselves busy rustling up some handicrafts of their own with the help of experienced workshop facilitators.

The free kids workshops will have a lovely festive theme upcycling Christmas baubles on Saturday, November 15 from 1pm-4pm, and making stockings and tree garlands on Sunday, November 16 from 1pm-4pm.

Facilitator Caroline Devenney has delivered kids workshops for many years at civic events including the Walled City Half Marathon, Christmas Markets, Clipper Race Festivals as well as at local community venues.

Speaking ahead of the popular annual event she said: “The kids’ drop-in arts and crafts workshops are suitable for all ages and abilities and were a very popular attraction for children attending last year’s Guildhall Craft Fair.”

Deirdre Harte, Derry City Council’s Craft Development Officer, said the Craft Development Programme was delighted to encourage and engage with the next generation of budding local crafters by providing the opportunity for children visiting the Craft Fair to make their own handcrafted items in a supervised environment.

There will also be live musical entertainment during the three-day event held in the Guildhall’s Whittaker Suite, which last year attracted 4,000 visitors from all over the country.

Music on the day will be provided by local soloists, harpists, string quartet and female choral group, adding to the wonderful festive atmosphere at the event.
