Killyglen Accordion tunes up for 40th anniversary dinner

ONE of Larne’s most popular bands - Killyglen Accordion - is celebrating its 40th birthday this autumn.

The band was formed in 1971 with the first practice night taking place on the third Tuesday in November in Killyglen Orange Hall.

There were only two accordions back them and no drums, but more than 30 potential members turned up showing a keen interest in becoming part of the new venture.

Killyglen is also well-known for its orchestra.

Competiting in England and Europe, the orchestra has achieved many titles and this year has been crowned UK champions for the second successive year.

Jimmy and the present band members would like to invite anyone who has ever been a member or a friend of Killyglen Accordion along to the annivesrary dinner which takes place on Saturday, October 6 in the Halfway House Hotel.
