Kilrea BB member attendsWWI remembrance event

Members of The Boys’ Brigade from across the UK have united this week to pay their respects to and reflect on the contribution made by former members who served during The Great War.

Steve Dickinson, CEO, The Boys’ Brigade said: “In honour of our former members, nine young men from England, Scotland and Northern Ireland were privileged to attend the Commonwealth Commemorative Service at Glasgow Cathedral.

“These young men, many the same ages as those first volunteers a century earlier, were justifiably proud to represent the movement at such an occasion.

Amongst the members who took part was Lee Armstrong from 1st Kilrea Company who said:

“I really enjoyed the experience, and I’m thankful for being invited to attend.”

Within the first year of the war, 100,000 officers and ex-members of the Brigade had joined the armed forces, many exhibiting astonishing acts of bravery with eleven being awarded the Victoria Cross and thousands paying the ultimate sacrifice.
