Kilrea Cancer Research UK Committee going strong

COMMITTED members of Kilrea Local Committee for Cancer Research UK have this year stuck together to raise nearly £12,000 for the charity dedicated to research into the cause, prevention and treatment of cancer.

The house-to-house collection this year was a great success, as was the recent quiz night at The Old Point, which raised nearly 700.

Sarah Boulger, Area Volunteer Manager for Cancer Research UK said: “We are so grateful to have such a great committee in Kilrea and for all the support they receive.

“I still can’t believe that their house-to-house raised over 10,500 this year. It’s amazing. They also received very generous donations in memory of loved ones and I’d like to say thank you to those people for remembering us when they themselves have lost someone so close.

“Cancer Research UK currently spends over 2 million each year in Northern Ireland alone on ground breaking research. This vital research would not be possible without the support of people like the members of Kilrea Local Committee and the community.

“We are planning a special evening of thanks for those who have taken part and supported the committee this year on the 15th November. It’s a chance to say thank you and give them the opportunity to see where their donations are being spent here in Northern Ireland.”

The Kilrea Local Committee always welcome new members to their group so if you would like to get involved in making a difference, this really is the ideal opportunity.

Sarah says: “The committee meet a few times a year to discuss their fundraising ideas and organise the details and are there to run the events.

“It’s not too onerous on someone’s time, which I know is so limited for most people these days as we all have so many commitments. It’s a way to help raise funds for such an important cause without taking up too much time in the year. If you would like to get involved with the group please call me on 07775 790675.
