Kilrea's Hannah hopes to be 'Miss Macra'

A KILREA woman will be making a trip to Tipp this weekend in her bid to become Miss Macra.

The 39th International Miss Macra Festival is being held from July 29 to August 1 and Kilrea Young Farmers’ Club member Hannah McClure is the Miss Londonderry representative hoping to take the all-Ireland title.

Hannah, from Kilrea Young Farmers Club, is a 25-year-old PHD Research Student in Health Economics in Queen’s University.

Her interests include travelling, keeping fit, Belted Galloway Cattle and next year she hopes to train and show them.

She is an active member of her local YFC branch and has been in club successes in Drama and Dairy Stockjudging and has helped to organise exchanges with America.

If she were to win International Miss Macra 2010 Hannah would like to improve relations between Ulster Young Farmers and Macra and encourage new members to become involved.

International Miss Macra 2010 promises to be the best yet bringing together contestants from Macra branches across the Republic of Ireland as well as representatives from our sister organisations including the Young farmers’ Clubs.

Activities for the contestants over the weekend range from a ceilli on Thursday night when they meet their host families to orienteering on Friday, interviews both with the judges and on Saturday night on stage in the venue, Dundrum House Hotel, to donning their county jerseys for a sports day and barbeque on Sunday in Clonoulty GAA grounds.

The culmination of the weekend is the Gala Banquet and the crowning of International Miss Macra 2010 when 2009 winner Carbery (Cork) girl Edel Ronan hands over the crown on the stroke of midnight on Sunday.
