‘Kindness Day’ destined to provide gifts to the community on Thursday

Destined, a local organisation that supports people with learning disabilities, is hosting a ‘Kindness Day’ in Guildhall Square on Thursday, December 10 and offering gifts to people in the community.

Dermot O’Hara Destined Manager said: “People with learning disabilities are isolated in the community and the Kindness Festival aims to help reduce levels of exclusion by engaging positively with society.

“During the Kindness Day last year people were surprised at the random acts of kindness of the Destined members, and people who had never previously had contact with a person with a learning disability had their pre-conceived perceptions radically changed.”

This event is in its infancy as this will be only the second year that it has been delivered, but it is intended to make it an annual Festival and during last year’s initiative some people actually broke into tears at the act of kindness that was shown to them and several came back to Destined in the next few days with gifts for the members. A key element of the festival is presenting a kindness card to the recipient who then gives it to the person who receives an act of kindness from them and so on, creating a continuous cycle of kindness acts and a real feel good factor throughout the community.

Destined are inviting people to come to the Guildhall Square between 10.30am and 12.30pm on Thursday morning to become part of the festival.
