Kitty supports Hospice

Northern Ireland Hospice.

Mrs. Kitty Neeson, mother of internationally famous actor, Liam Neeson, was one of a large number of supporters of the event which was hosted by the Mayor of Ballymoney, Councillor Evelyne Robinson – just one of a number of charities endorsed by the First Citizen in her term in office.

Mrs Neeson politely declined to be put in the spotlight when approached but confirmed it was the first time she had visited the council offices.

She did agree to a picture with a close friend Isobel McCormick who was a former neighbour years ago in William Street, Ballymena.

Mrs. McCormick, who was accompanied by another Ballymena lady, Patricia McCrystal, joked that she had wheeled Liam in his pram when he was a baby.

The Mayor told the Times: “I had the pleasure of welcoming so many people to the Mayor’s Parlour for such a worthy cause as the Northern Ireland Hospice.

“One notable visitor was Mrs Neeson who had travelled from Ballymena and it was a pleasure to welcome her.

“I had last been in her company at her son’s Freedom of the Borough ceremony in Ballymena and she was a most gracious lady. I was in her company for a large part of the day and I was delighted that the event had gone down so well.”

Councillor Robinson added: “Mrs Neeson was high in praise for the work done by the Hospice and by its volunteers.”

The event drew good support from the local community and was also well supported by staff from the council itself.

Councillor Robinson had earlier spoken of the good work done by the Hospice movement and said she was pleased to have lent her backing to the Coffee morning.

The chair of the Ballymoney branch, Mrs Irene Camac and the treasurer, Jackie Matthews, were kept busy handing out cups of tea and coffee.

Both thanked all who supported the event and for their generous donations.
