Knife-wielding robber targets walkers and cyclist on shoreline path

Detectives investigating a series of robberies on the loughshore path near Hazelbank Park have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

The three incidents occurred at approximately 10.30pm on Monday, March 14, but the PSNI only released the details today (Wednesday).

Police received a report that a woman walking at Hazelbank Park was approached by an unknown male. The male, who is believed to have been carrying a knife, demanded that she hand over her phone, wallet and money before making off empty handed.

At around the same time, a cyclist had his mountain bike stolen by an unknown male on the cycle/walking path between Hazelbank and Gideons Green.

And a man walking along nearby Gideons Green in Whitehouse was approached by an unknown male armed with a knife. The man stole his watch and made off towards Hazelbank Park.

According to police, “none of the victims were injured, however they were left very badly shaken.”

Detective Sergeant Maxwell said: “I would appeal to anyone who has any information about these incidents to contact detectives at Reactive and Organised Crime at Newtownabbey on the non-emergency number 101. Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
