Knocked woman down and broke her wrist, court is told

When he was reversing his car outside a shop a 34-year-old man struck a woman who fell to the ground.

Rafal Szkanny, Belvedere Manor, Lurgan, admitted a charge of driving without due care and attention on November 9 last year. He was fined £150 and given four penalty points.

Craigavon Magistrates Court heard last Wednesday that at 9.10am the injured party was standing outside Magill’s shop in Deeny Drive in Lurgan. The defendant, who was reversing, hit her and she fell to the ground. He got out of the car and asked her if she was okay.

A barrister representing the defendant said that it was only later that night that the lady fell unwell and an ambulance was called to her house.

She added that Szkanny voluntarily attended at the police station and told them he was the driver involved in the incident.

The barrister said the defendant had no previous convictions of this nature and there were three points on his licence for speeding.

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said that the victim had sustained a broken wrist.
