Chief Inspector Darrin Jones said the finds and arrests proved that the police were committed in tackling drugs head on.

“Lisburn police officers are working tirelessly to rid the streets of illegal drugs and the weekend seizures are further evidence of this,” he said.

“Officers have proven that they will take action against drug dealers when good information is given to us or if their suspicions are aroused in the course of their day to day duties.

“I thank the residents in Knockmore for their continuing support and I would encourage people to work with us to rid the estate of drugs and those who deal them.”

Councillor Margaret Tolerton, Chairman of Lisburn DPP, added: “The continuing issue of drugs being found in Knockmore is a very serious problem and one which the residents have made their voices heard on at our recent DPP public meeting. While it is re-assuring that the police made this find on Friday evening, although the powder has yet to be forensically tested, it is another blow to this community that further evidence of drug taking and dealing has been uncovered.

“I would commend the police for their pro-activity in Knockmore and encourage the community to report any suspicious activity that they see.”
