Labour has failed local economy

CONSERVATIVES and Unionists candidate David Harding has said his Foyle constituency, devastated by recession, "cannot withstand a further term of Labour's financial mismanagement".

"By far the biggest issue in Foyle is the economy and especially the effect this is having on employment. For months all we have heard is news of short-time working, lay-offs, companies going into administration and soaring unemployment. We cannot continue as we are - the people of Foyle need and deserve a better future.

"Labour's economic policies have failed the people of Foyle, but we now have an opportunity to make a change.

"A Conservative and Unionist Government would reverse Labour's jobs tax and look at making Northern Ireland an enterprise zone. These measures would make doing business in Londonderry and across Northern Ireland easier, and would help us to find our way out of recession.

"Conservatives and Unionists will get the UK working by boosting enterprise - we'll cut corporation tax rates, abolish taxes on the first ten jobs created by new businesses, promote green jobs, and get people off welfare and into work..

"At this election we are offering a real opportunity to send MPs to Westminster from Northern Ireland - MPs who will be able to represent the interests of the people of Foyle at the heart of Government."
