‘Lack of detail’ over Gaelectric proposal, Larne councillor claims

Cllr Gregg McKeen has expressed “grave concerns” regarding plans to create a new green energy facility on the outskirts of the town.

Dublin-based renewable energy company Gaelectric wants to build a £300m compressed air energy storage (CAES) facility - only the third of its kind anywhere in the world - at Carnduff.

But Cllr McKeen, who is a DUP candidate for the Larne Lough area in the upcoming in council election, has expressed his reservtaions regarding the scheme.

He added: “There is a lack of detail surrounding this project at the minute, and many people are very worried.

“Many more questions still need to be answered by Gaelectric, and so I am not supportive of the plan as it currently stands.

“However, I commend the company for its ongoing public consultation process,” Cllr McKeen concluded.
