Ladies learn extent of retail crime

President of Maze Brookfield Women’s Institute, Ann Whaley, welcomed everyone to the May meeting, where guest speaker was Mark Kernohan, an Asda Security Officer who deals with Retail Crime in 17 stores provincewide.

Mr Kernohan saidretail crime was “massive” in Northern Ireland and members were shocked to learn of the extent of incidents continually perpetrated both by individuals and organised gangs.

He also alerted the ladies to the need to be vigilant when shopping with handbags in trolleys.

Eunice Hoey gave the vote of thanks. Competition winners were Hazel Law, Barbara McClenaghan and Helen Dunlop.

Ballot prizes were won by Freda McFarland, Olive Greer, Jean Bell and Barbara McClenaghan. Special Birthday Girl this month was Sally Houston, who received a bouquet of flowers on the occasion of her 90th birthday.

Ann thanked Helen Dunlop for the work she had carried out both as Executive Member for Lisnagarvey Area and also as Chairman of the Homecraft Committee for six years.

Dorothy Andrews will be the new Executive Member for Lisnagarvey Area.
