LADIES: Murphy double not enough

COLERAINE Ladies are still searching for their first league victory of the season.

Alison Nicholl's side entertained Fermanagh Mallards on Thursday night in Davison's Frudles Championship League, and were defeated 4-2.

Speaking after game, Alison told Times Sport: "I was disappointed that we didn't take something from the game. We gave away two bad goals, so we need to work on tightening things up a little at the back.

"Fermanagh were a very physical side, but we matched them, I think we are getting stronger with every game that we play. I think that once we get a win it will boost our confidence and hopefully things will turn around for us," said Alison.

Coleraine started well and took the lead through Emma Murphy, after some good play by Lauren Wade.

The visitors were a more physical side, but Coleraine, although small in stature, battled hard and controlled play.

Fermanagh pulled a goal back, the first effort was cleared by Karri Nicholl in the Coleraine goal, but a quick thinking forward latched onto the loose ball to level the scores.

Fermanagh controlled things after this and took the lead soon after. The visitors continued to press and they grabbed a third goal before the break.

Coleraine started strongly in the second half, and could have reduced the arrears - Emma Murphy was only inches away from scoring with another header after a good cross by Lauren Quinn.

At the other end Fermanagh extended their lead from a corner kick. Coleraine responded through Emma Murphy who got her second goal from a very tight angle.
