Ladies on ‘Walking Tour’

IT may have been mixed weatherwise, but a group of 48 women from Tyrone, Donegal, Londonderry and even some ladies from Canada, enjoyed a walking tour of the city.

The trip started in St Columb’s Cathedral, with guide Ian Bartlett giving an interesting and informative talk on the history of the Cathedraland the ladies were shown artefacts of historical interest, including silverware and historical Bibles, and also watched a DVD on the history of the building, finishing with further exploration and a time of reflection.

The ladies then made their way to recently refurbished First Derry Presbyterian Church, where some time was spent admiring the restoration work, stained glass windows and other memborablia.

This was followed with a talk by Rev Dr David Latimer on the history of the church and founder members from the Siege to the present day and some of the more notable members of First Derry, past and present.

There was also time for a question and answer session before the group then made their way back through a very heavy downpour to Carlisle Road Methodist Church, where there was a brief talk on the history of that church by Gerald Crawford and Ken Doherty.

The delegates were formally welcomed by Rev Peter Murray, Methodist Superintendent and the tour was completed with a meal in Carlisle Road Methodist Hall.

A lot of friendships were made and established friendships were renewed on the tour.
