Ladies to face DC in league opener

COLERAINE ladies will kick off their season next month.

The league fixtures were announced last week, and Coleraine face a tough opener as they travel to Donegal Celtic on April 22.

Coleraine will again play in the Championship this year, while neighbours YMCA will make the step up to the Premier League, after promotion last year.

Teams in the Championship include Carrick, Donegal Celtic, Dromore, Fermanagh Mallards, Larne, Loughgall and St Matt’s.

Alison Nicholl and her squad have been in training now for the past six weeks, and the player/manager tells that they are raring to go for the start of the new season.

“We have a very tough start away to Donegal Celtic, we then play Loughgall, who came down from the Premier League, the week after. There will be no easy games in the league this year, but we are looking forward to getting into competitive football again,” said Alison.

“ We have a very young squad, and I have no doubt that playing at this level will help them progress.

“The girls involved with the International training, like Lauren Wade, need to be playing at this level, it’s a good standard of football, and I hope we do well this year.”

Coleraine played a friendly game against Coleraine University last Thursday night as a warm up to the league.

Any new players are welcome to come along.

Training will take place this Thursday at Coleraine University from 8.30 to 10. From April 12, the girls will train on a Monday night from 7 to 8.30.
