Lady Luck pays Norman a visit

Larne adventurer Norman Surplus has set out on a remarkable journey – to become the first man to fly around the world in a gyrocopter. Each week, the Larne Times will be hot on Norman's trail to keep readers up to date with all the latest developments on his amazing journey.

NORMAN finally encountered some much-needed luck this week in his ongoing quest to get his round-the-world expedition back in the air.

As reported last week, a specialist autogyro engineer has flown out to Thailand to assist the Larne man with his repairs. Norman and his team have now stripped the craft down to its basic parts and the engine is being checked over.

And there was more good news this week as Norman came across a local repair shop capable of carrying out work to the craft’s carbon fibre bodywork.

Norman added: “As luck would have it, this facility is a manufacturing outpost of a German company. In fact, the president of the Thai company knows the German autogyro company very well. The penny dropped and the connection was made when the Thai operations manager saw a photograph online of the very same bodywork parked on the forecourt of a Saudi Arabian garage some weeks back. Sometimes it is a very small world!”
