Lagan Valley MLA Hale welcomes Ebola action

Lagan Valley MLA Brenda Hale and North Antrim MP Ian Paisley have welcomed the actions taken by the Department of Health to deal with a potential importation of the Ebola Virus to Northern Ireland.

Mrs Hale asked about the local preparations during topical questions to the Health Minister this week .

Mrs Hale said: “I am pleased to see that there has been attention given to preparing for any potential incident where this disease is imported to Northern Ireland. There are obviously no direct flights to Northern Ireland from the affected areas, but for the three worst affected countries there are no direct flights to any UK airport, so anyone arriving will have travelled through another hub.”

She continued: “Whilst the risks locally are relatively low it is important that precautions are taken and steps are in place for the isolation of any suspected cases, protective equipment is available and training has been given to the relevant staff. protective equipment is available and training has been given to the relevant staff.”
