“It’s well worth going to see the hide at Portmore Lough,” said Mr McCrea. “The RSPB do good work there with families and young people, but more people of all ages should visit.

Some people may be unsure about visiting such a site, but they will be welcomed and should go to see what is on offer at such a wonderful local resource. The RSPB aren’t just protecting birds, at Portmore Lough they work with local residents such as farmers to show how conservation can help everyone. They also protect the resident species such as otters, badgers, foxes and Irish hares, along with introducing new animals at Portmore Lough including Konik ponies.”

Donnell Black, RSPB Portmore Lough Neagh Site Manager said: “Portmore Lough is a fantastic place. Not only is it highly protected for a range of nationally and internationally important species, but it is also increasingly becoming a visitor attraction due to its biodiversity and beautiful scenery.”
