Lagan Valley Rotary nominate bench in memory of Brian Burke

THE Rotary Club of Lagan Valley has installed a bench on Lisburn dedicated to a local business man who sadly passed away last year.

Brian Burke had been a tireless member of the Rotary Club of Lisburn and he was well known for his hairdressing salon in Castle Street which is run by his wife Edith and daughter Gaynor, along with their salon in Belfast.

When Lisburn Rotary Club celebrated it’s 50th Anniversary Brian came up with the idea of creating a new club in the area, it was his inspirational personality, sheer determination and refusal to accept that ‘it couldn’t be done’, that led to the eventual formation of the Rotary Club of Lagan Valley in 2006.

The former Mayor of Lisburn, Councillor Brian Heading, together with Brian’s widow Edith unveiled the bench which is situated across from Lisburn Civic Centre and aptly overlooks Lagan Valley.
